Benadryl for dogs

What kind of dog do you have?

Is your dog one of those dogs that often barks continuously? Are you getting a lot of complaints from the neighbors that your dog makes a lot of ruckuses? Is the barking of your dog making you want to scream in frustration? What if I told you that the solution for all this is just a few drops of Benadryl? Yes, it is that simple! Benadryl for dogs have a number of uses but what people are not aware of is that Benadryl can not only lower down the barking of your dog, but it also calms them down.

Why do dogs bark?

A bark for a dog is similar to what crying is to a child. Like crying, dogs use barking to express whatever they feel whether it be anxiousness, pain, hunger etc. Hearing your dogs bark while they are in pain or when they are anxious can become quite annoying but now you know the solution; a few drops of Benadryl resulting in fewer complaints from neighbors! Keep in mind that Benadryl for dogs does not relief pain or cure anxiety or other emotions that your dog feels; it only helps to calm the animal.

The right amount of Benadryl?

The amount of Benadryl best suited for your dog depends on how much your pet weighs. Good ways to estimate the right amount of medicine is that for one pound give the dog one milligram of Benadryl. As for how many times you should give the medicine to your dog is two to three times a day. But keep in mind that you do not overdose your dog. If your dog keeps on barking, you can give it the medicines for up to three weeks but if after three weeks, you see no improvement in the dog’s behavior then it is time that you contact your vet.

Over the counter medications are a great alternative but sometimes your dog might have a disease that you are unaware of hence it is better if you take your dog to the vet.

Safety of the dog:

The metabolism and immunity of dogs are similar to that of humans which means that your dog might act differently to Benadryl than another dog does. For this reason, it is recommended that before providing your dog with any sort of treatment, make sure you check it with the vet if it is okay for you to provide your dog with a certain medicine. A dog might be able to take Benadryl for one month and not have any side effects while another dog might take it twice and show harmful side effects.

Conclusion:

Benadryl is generally a safe medicine but before you give it to your dog, understand how the medicine works and what effects might come to the dog if you give it Benadryl. You can use Benadryl while dealing with a bee sting, anxiety or barking but make sure that you give the right dosage at the right time to avoid any harm coming to you.
